Civil engineering is one of the prospective fields in India with a constant growth rate. Potential real-estate, infrastructure, and building and constructions sectors are on strong move to capture the Indian economy’s major share. Constant decline in construction cost and gradual increase in requirements have been making the field more fruitful since a couple of years.

Career Opportunities and Career Avenues for civil engineers:
In general, civil engineers work in construction of new structures, or maintain and repair the existing ones. Road projects, building and housing projects, consultancy firms, and testing or research laboratories are common career avenues for civil engineering graduates. In fact, always there is a high demand for qualified and skillful civil engineering professionals in India and all other developing nations.

Civil engineers can be employed by government departments, private and public sector companies, quality analysis laboratories, teaching institutes etc. They have very fair opportunities to get placed in various projects handled by state and central governments, the railways and roadways, private housing and shopping ventures, and other consultancy firms. Civil engineers can also opt research work and can take up teaching career.

There are various career opportunities for civil engineering graduates as they can choose their verticals based on their interest. Highways, bridges, tunnels, irrigation projects – dams and reservoirs, and construction of commercial and residential complexes are most general type of career avenues for a civil engineer. Some enthusiastic, technically and financially sound professionals can start their own consultancy firms. Those who pursue a diploma in management can also be placed in managerial or administrative positions.

Top rated government employers for civil engineers are – R&D departments of state and central governments, the railways, and government architecture and planning institutes. The most prospective private sector employers for civil engineers are – IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd, Jaypee Group, Larsen & Toubro, DLF, GMR, and Rel Infra.

I am studying B.TECH 3 year(CIVIL) ,am interested to learn Architecture,is it possible for me to study M.Arch,if so can any one please suggest for which exams should i prepare,and which would be the best college for architecture???
