Software Engineering Careers

Software engineering is the most potential field in India as it is growing exponentially and challenging every other sector with its tremendous pace. This one of the established careers for engineering graduates. It has a wide of range of applications even in healthcare, pharmaceutical and life sciences fields which are very contrast to information technology. Computer engineers have fair choice of opportunities because of the huge demand in the industry.
Software Engineers - Job Profile and Requisite skills:   
Software engineers focus on the operation, development and maintenance of software. They also use their hands in computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, quality management, project maintenance, system engineering and software ergonomics. Software professionals also perform computer programming, software design, user interface design and software testing. One must possess good analytical approach towards the project, problem solving skills, management skills, mentoring skills, team spirit, communication skills, etc. to become a good professional in the field.
To upgrade themselves with advance technologies and skills, software engineers must attend seminars, participate in technical presentations, and pursue diplomas from pioneering institutes for software engineering or private educational firms.
Most of the corporate companies train their employs in various advanced courses and communication skills. The companies feel that training employees in respective sides may help them both in long run.
Career Opportunities for Software Engineers:
Like in most other careers, the better opportunities or promotions for software engineers may depend upon their relevant experience in the field. The experienced professionals are always on the top priority side for any software employer. Fresh engineering graduates could join a company as junior software engineers, programmers, junior developers, junior consultants or trainees. Eventually junior engineers may get progress in their skills and experience, and settle as project managers, managers of information systems, Chief Operations Officers.
Some software engineers who are experienced enough and capable of project management may start their own computer consultancy firm or may work as an independent consultant.
Software engineers may get employed in various sectors like IT & ITES, telecommunications, finance, media and entertainment, internet, education, banking and insurance, infrastructure, bioinformatics, healthcare and life sciences, etc.
Software engineers can choose their career avenue in either government or private sector. The government departments like industries ministry, information ministry, commercial tax and income tax, finance and ecommerce, education and technology can provide good opportunities for software engineers.
Some of the major private employers for software engineers in India are – Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCL, HP, IBM, Microsoft, GE, Dell, Cognizant, Ingram Micro, Redington, Cisco, Oracle, Intel, Accenture, Polaris and SAP.

i have my IT B.Tech aggregate as 56% now i am in 4-2 year - i will complete my in may,2011.I am not eligible in my campus for any company i fell upset can any one help me in finding out a way for success in my(IT) carrier and tell me what step shall i take so that i can get a good job with high sallary . (I am not so poor in concept only thing is i am poor in getting the percentage....)Now what is the forward step to be done by me whether i should stop going for further education and search a job or go for higher studies pls reply me
